The term Grigori (also spelled Grigori or Griogorim) comes from the Greek word egrēgoroi, which literally means “the Watchers,” “the Awake Ones,” or “the Vigilant Ones”.

In a religious and mythological context, it refers to a group of angels known as Watchers. This term appears in ancient Hebrew texts and apocryphal writings, such as the Book of Enoch. According to these traditions, these beings were created by God to serve as earthly shepherds or guardians over humanity.

In a broader sense, the name Grigori is also used as a masculine given name. It is derived from the Greek word gregorein, which means “to be vigilant” or “to watch”.
